Come explore the great outdoors with us!  We offer a wide variety of programs for our members of all ages.  Junior members join us for overnight camping trips at Gilbert Lake State Park, as well as day trips fishing, canoeing, and hiking in the area.  Participants are taught about local wildlife and plants, and how to respect the environment while enjoying the natural world.  Safety in all activities is taught and strictly enforced.

For our senior members, we offer overnight trips to points of interest all over the Northeast.  Participants are taught the use of Map & Compass, the principles of "Leave No Trace", safety practices in all activities, and back country survival skills.  They are also certified in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR.  Past trips have included backpacking in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the Catskills, Rock Climbing in New Paltz and West Virginia, snow boarding in Vermont, canoeing and kayaking the lakes and rivers of the Adirondacks, and salmon fishing in Pulaski, New York.  Keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming trips, or call the club at (607)432-1133 for more information.

North/South Lake Day hike

April 16, 2008

What a great day we had! We had a great turnout for a wonderful early spring hike.  It was a beautiful blue sky day, and lunch by the lake was very enjoyable.  We ended up going on a fairly rigorous 4 mile hike that included some wonderful views of the hudson valley, as well as providing some great opportunities to learn learn about this beautiful Catskill State Park.  To learn more of this area of the Catskills please visit http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24487.html

Overlook Mountain day hike

April 18, 2008

Great hiking, ladies!  Yet another beautiful day of spring hiking, felt more like June hiking except the trees were still bare.  We had yet another blue sky day for this adventurous hike.  The trail to the top is a well maintained gravel road with a moderate grade.   Although the fire tower was locked, we were able to climb the stairs to the top.  Exploring the ruins of the Overlook Mountain House was a very exciting journey trough the late 19th and early 20th century.  After the hike we went down into the town of Woodstock for some ice cream and a little window shopping. Kudos to the group you did a great job!
